For homework, research the following issues, and respond in a 4-5 sentence English paragraph: are there tensions between Arab-Israelis and Jewish Israeli people? Why are there tensions between the two? How can this issue be resolved? Can you compare this issue to a similar, American issue?

In addition, read the article below about a Tunisian artist who uses calligraphy and graffiti, "calligraffiti," in order to protest intolerance in Tunisia. Prepare for a Socratic seminar about art and protest by researching art as a means of protest. The questions we will discuss is: when does art become vandalism? How can art create change or spark protests? Is art more or less powerful in creating change than the written word? How does "Eastern" street art differ than "Western"?

Search for images of Arab coffee shops by country. Look up at least 5 countries (search coffee shop, Egypt, or coffee shop, Algeria, etc). After that, compile a list of 7-10 vocabulary words/phrases that you wish to use in your coffee shop scenario في المقهى. Think about culturally appropriate phrases/conversations that you wish to have. We will use your compiled phrases to help create your scenarios.

The movie Ajami we are watching deals primarily with issues related to Arab-Israelis and Jewish Israeli relations. For homework, research the following issues, and respond in a 4-5 sentence English paragraph: are there tensions between Arab-Israelis and Jewish Israeli people? Why are there tensions between the two? How can this issue be resolved? Can you compare this issue to a similar, American issue?
